Back to the real world

My time at Toi Pōneke concluded at the end of last week. It was a little sad clearing out my little studio in Te Aro, packing my backpack, and uh sweeping the crumbs off the floor, but I'm really pleased with what I was able to achieve in the time I was there. Poison needs a lot of editing work - and some whole new chapters - but with the help of my mentor I've got a really good sense of what the story wants to be, and how I can take it there.

I had the opportunity to share an extract at a reading on Sunday (super grateful to everyone who made it despite the incoming cyclone) and it was lovely to introduce some friends and colleagues to Riley after she's been living in my head for at least the past few months.

(Support your local arts centres, folks, and don't vote for people who don't support them and other arts projects!)

I'm taking a small break and working on some other projects this month, but I have a plan to get back to it soon, and I'm excited for it. In a couple of weeks I'm going to be at Ages of Pages in Kirikiriroa Hamilton. Entry is free so if you're in the area please drop by.

On another note, I'm delighted to see Rem Wigmore's Vengeful Wild duology back in print. I loved Foxhunt and was privileged to read an early draft of Wolfpack. They're raw, beautiful, queer solarpunk stories of love and violence, now with some gorgeous new covers. You can grab a copy of Foxhunt now.

Digital mockup of the two books, fronts and spines. Cover of Foxhunt: a woman with brown skin and eyes and an intense stare, with wisps of smoke like claws framing her face and a fang earring, above swirls of red and green smoke, like a mouth, enclosing a solarpunk city. Cover of Wolfpack: a brown-skinned woman holding a coppery fox mask. She is mostly obscured by red smoke and a little below the title is a domed white building on a green mountain.
